MSI GP62 7RD LEOPARD

-

Recently MSI announces its new range of gaming laptop in India backed by 7th-gen Intel Kaby Lake processor. These gaming laptops are built for hardcore gamers hungry for powerful graphics processing. Today, I will talk about MSI GP62 7RD Leopard which I reviewed recently.

Build and design: It’s a gaming device, so you can’t think of slim profile. MSI GP62 7RD Leopard has a bulky design and carries 2.2kg weight. It might feel heavy, but It’s actually not that much, one can carry along comfortably. The 15.6-inch machine is designed beautifully and it’s relatively slick. The brushed aluminum chassis gives it attractive looks.

The laptop comes with a decent keyboard having all the keys that you can think of. The keyboard is designed keeping requirements of professional gamers in the mind. The keyboard has ergonomically-designed keys with 1.9mm of key travel for better responsive and tactile feedback, optimum WASD zone and support of anti-ghosting capability for up to 45 keys. The keys can be used easily even in night or dark room as it has SteelSeries single color backlighting keyboard.

The display and sound: MSI GP62 7RD LEOPARD has an IPS level display with a higher gamut of 72% NTSC color range. It produces rich colors and has the good amount of brightness levels. I enjoyed playing dark theme games on it as well as the black is deep delivering awesome image clarity. The vivid 1920×1080 resolution screen is among the best displays I have used in gaming laptops with wide viewing angle.

The speakers are on the front lip of the laptop, angled downwards, meaning using on the flat surface you will get sound bounce off but, on another surface, you won’t be able to enjoy the music.

Performance: The gaming beast is backed by 2.8 GHz i7 Kaby Lake CPU and GeForce GTX 10-Series GPU combined with 16 GB DDR4 RAM. The combination makes the machine a real beast to handle almost every type of game as the latest generation of GeForce GPU has improved 3D performance. Added with Cooler Boost 4 cooling solution, the laptop offers smooth gaming experience

I played games like Thief, Shadow of Mordor, NFS and some other titles on it. The LEOPARD handled all the games quite easily. While playing these games we didn’t notice any visible performance lag. With about 100 fps it was able to render the graphics beautifully. To go beyond, we ran all four games at the same time and played one while running rest in the background. Still, there was no issue with the performance.

While using with the laptop, we got about more than 5 hours of battery backup with moderate usage. But when we played some

intensive games, it lasted for about 3 hours. In our video loop test, the battery was able to play video for about 3 hours and 23 minutes over Wi-Fi with full brightness and volume.

Bottomline: You would spend more than one lakh for this gaming beast, which seems a good idea considering its performance. It’s a real beast that can easily handle various games, only battery backup is disappointing, but overall it’s a good gaming laptop.
