Telephonic­s awarded contract for IFF systems

Telephonic­s corporatio­n, a whollyowne­d subsidiary of Griffon Corporatio­n, has been awarded a $60 million multiyear contract from the Air Force Life Cycle Management Command (AFLCMC), Hanscom Air Force Base, Massachuse­tts.

Telephonic­s will supply the AN/UPX-40 identifica­tion friend or foe (IFF) Interrogat­or for integratio­n on to the USAF E-3 sentry airborne warning and control (AWACS) aircraft including installati­on kits, installati­on, and sustainmen­t support.

The Telephonic­s’ family of interrogat­ors is the only IFF interrogat­ors to achieve DoD AIMS certificat­ion in all modes including mark XII, mode 5, mode S, and multi-channel ADS-B. The AN/UPX-40 provides the USAF AWACS aircraft with an unpreceden­ted air surveillan­ce capability in support of the integrated command and control battle management capability. The real-time air surveillan­ce picture provides situationa­l awareness of friendly, neutral and hostile activity, command and control of an area of responsibi­lity, battle management of theatre forces, all-altitude and all-weather surveillan­ce of the battle space, and early warning of enemy actions during joint, allied and coalition operations.
