Lt Gen­eral Velu Nair takes over as DGMS (Army)


Lieu­tenant Gen­eral Velu Nair took over as the Di­rec­tor Gen­eral Med­i­cal Ser­vices (Army) on July 1, 2016. The Gen­eral Of­fi­cer is an alum­nus of Armed Forces Med­i­cal Col­lege (AFMC), Pune, and was com­mis­sioned into the Army Med­i­cal Corps in March 1978. The of­fi­cer is a hae­ma­tol­o­gist of in­ter­na­tional re­pute and a recog­nised teacher and ex­am­iner at post­doc­toral level.

Dur­ing his il­lus­tri­ous ca­reer of 38 years in Armed Forces Med­i­cal Ser­vices, he has held var­i­ous key clin­i­cal and ad­min­is­tra­tive ap­point­ments. He has held the ap­point­ment of Pro­fes­sor and Head of the Depart­ment of In­ter­nal Medicine, AFMC, Pune, and Army Hos­pi­tal (Re­search & Re­fer­ral), Delhi Cantt. The Gen­eral Of­fi­cer is a keen aca­demi­cian and an avid re­searcher. He has held the ap­point­ments of Dean, Army Col­lege of Med­i­cal Sciences, New Delhi, and Dean and Deputy Com­man­dant of AFMC, Pune. The Gen­eral Of­fi­cer has the unique dis­tinc­tion of hav­ing held the key ap­point­ments of Se­nior Con­sul­tant (Medicine) in DGAFMS and Deputy Chief of In­te­grated De­fence Staff (Med).
