IN­DIAN NAVY TO BUY AD­DI­TIONAL RUS­SIAN FRI­GATES FOR $3 BIL­LION

It is re­ported that In­dia has fi­nal­ized a con­tract to ac­quire four new stealth fri­gates from rus­sian fed­er­a­tion for about $3bil­lion. The first two of these “Up­graded Kri­vak III class”, will be built in rus­sia. the fol­low­ing two will be built in Goa ship­yard Ltd (GsL) with trans­fer of tech­nol­ogy from rus­sia. De­liv­ery is likely to be­gin four years af­ter sign­ing of the con­tract. the In­dian Navy al­ready op­er­ates six of these fri­gates. rus­sia’s sev­er­noye De­sign Bureau has re­designed some parts of the Kri­vak III-class frigate to re­duce their radar cross-sec­tion, elec­tro­mag­netic, acous­tic and in­frared sig­na­tures for pro­vid­ing it stealth fea­tures. they are In­dia’s most ver­sa­tile and heav­il­yarmed war­ships which are ca­pa­ble of con­duct­ing anti-ship, anti-sub­ma­rine, and an­ti­air oper­a­tions.
