Other than the landslide victory in Lok Sabha elections, Bharatiya Janata Party prime ministerial candidate Narendra’s Modi tweet also created a new record of sorts. It was India’s most tweeted tweet ever.

Mr Modi’s tweet “India has won!” “Bharat ki Vijay, ache din aane waale hai” ( good days are here) saw record breaking retweets. The tweet was retweeted more than 57,000 times, thus breaking all records in India by becoming the most retweeted tweet ever in the country. The tweet was also favourited more than 35,000 times. Twitter India’s official account confirmed that the tweet is indeed the most retweeted tweet ever from India. Buoyed by an outstanding win in the Lok Sabha elections, another tweet of a selfie with his mother, saw more than five thousand retweets within one hour. The tweet along with a photo said, “Sought blessings from my Mother”. The tweet was also favourited more than 7500 times.

Mr Modi also tweeted out a link called the “Victory Wall” where people can congratulate him on his historic win.

Hours later, even the PMin- waiting Narendra Modi’s official website got a makeover. With the homepage of the website opening with Mr Modi’s picture reading “Thank you for the trust”. The website has also come up with a page “Victory Wall” # CongratsNamo, that features all the wishes sent by people on Twitter and Facebook to Mr Modi, the man who is all set to become India’s next Prime Minister.

Significantly, even Twitter’s trending topics in India were dominated by elections. Narendra Modi and his party had the bulk of the trending hashtags, with terms such as TsuNaMo and Mission 272 trending. Like a true son, 63- year- old Narendra Modi first drove to his brother’s residence in Ahmedabad to seek blessings from his nonagenarian mother who had wanted to see him adorn the chair of Prime Minister.

As the results indicated a landslide victory for the BJP and its allies, the Gujarat chief minister, who was till then monitoring the results on television, decided to make his first appearance and share his victory with the people of India.

“India has won! Bharat ki Vijay. Ache din aane wale hai ( good days are ahead),” the soon- to- be PM tweeted.

Within minutes, Mr Modi’s cavalcade passed through the streets of Gandhinagar to reach the by- lanes of Ahmedabad where his brother lives with their mother who had always wished to see her son ruling the country.

As television cameras beamed the visuals live, Mr Modi waved through a sea of people outside his brother’s residence and sought the blessings of his mother.

The Gujarat police had made elaborate arrangements and ensured that only family members were inside the house when Mr Modi was there. Mr Modi spent more than 20 minutes with his family and was seen talking to his mother.
