Glamorous image helped me get votes: Ruby

“Mrs India” Ruby Yadav, 32, an independent Lok Sabha candidate from South Delhi constituency, has no issues in accepting that her glamour quotient helped her getting 56,749 votes even when Modi wave was sweeping the whole country.

The beauty queen came fourth in the general elections, leaving behind candidates from Trinamul Congress, Communist Party of India and Bahujan Samaj Party.

Interestingly, Ms Yadav blames Aam Aadmi Party ( AAP) for cutting votes as she claims that people got confused with her party symbol, a shuttlecock, with AAP’s jhadu.

“When there was Modi wave all over the country and big leaders succumbed in front of it, I managed to get decent number of votes as an independent candidate. People who said that a glamorous person can’t perform, I have proved them wrong as my glamour quotient has helped me,” said Ms Ruby Yadav.

“The confusion between mine and AAP’s election symbols among voters has also gone against me. Even during the campaigning, people used to think that I am an AAP candidate because of the symbol. That’s why, I think, my votes got diverted,” added Ms Yadav.

Ruby, who was associated with Anna Hazare in his anti- corruption movement, has claimed that she had got a ticket from the Trinamul Congress from the same constituency but she opted out.

But the Trinamul sources had denied her claims. “She wanted a ticket from South Delhi which denied by the Trinamul seniors after which she left he party,” said a senior politician from the TMC office at Park Avenue.
