- PRAGYA SINGH

With three BJP MLAs winning the Lok Sabha polls, the Aam Aadmi Party ( AAP) may request lieutenant- governor Najeeb Jung that they be allowed to form government in Delhi. With 27 MLAs in the Assembly, the party will need the support of nine more MLAs to form government. Party sources said that most AAP MLAs at the closeddoor review meeting on Saturday were of the view that the party must approach the L- G.

There are indications that they may meet the L- G soon.

With three BJP MLAs winning the Lok Sabha polls, the AAP may now request the lieutenantgovernor that they be allowed to form the government in the city.

Party sources said that most of the MLAs present during the closed- door review meeting held on Saturday were of the view that the party must approach the L- G for the formation of government. There are indications that the party may meet the LG soon. The AAP had won 28 seats in the Assembly elections, but after expulsion of one MLA, the AAP was left with 27 seats. Now with three BJP MLA’s winning Lok Sabha polls, the BJP is reduced to 29 seats. Besides, there are eight MLAs from Congress, one from JD( U) and two independents who are in fray.

The review meeting was presided over by the AAP convenor Arvind Kejriwal, along with senior leaders, including Sanjay Singh, Yogendra Yadav, Gopal Rai, Shazia Ilmi and the members of party’s political affairs committee.

Party MLA from Rohini Rajesh Garg said most of MLAs were of the opinion that the party should approach the L- G and stake a claim in forming government. “We feel that it is better to form a government rather than reelection as it puts a lot of burden on people. Also in the wake of Lok Sabha polls, model code of conduct was in place since last months and it will be extended to another months in case Delhi goes to polls again. To avoid such a situation, the MLAs were in the favour of forming the government,” Mr Garg said.

No final decision has been reached yet, but there are ample indications within the party that after facing the defeat in LS polls the party will like to avoid re- elections in the city.
