Family alleges woman murdered for dowry

- AGE CORRESPONDENT

A 30- year- old woman died under mysterious circumstances on Sunday afternoon in Bharat Nagar area of southeast district.

Whereas the woman’s kin have alleged that she has been murdered by her in- laws, the latter claimed that she committed suicide. The woman has been identified as Arushi Arora.

The police said that they have registered a case in connection with the matter and are investigating the matter. “We have sent the body for autopsy after which we would be able to ascertain how she died,” the police said.

Arushi got married to Jatin Arora seven years ago and the couple didn’t have a child. Arushi’s father Anil Bali have told the cops that his daughter called him at about 11 am on Sunday and said that she has been locked up in a room and feared that her in- laws were planning something bad. Bali, who immediately left for her daughter’s house, received a call on the way from Jatin that she has been admitted to a hospi- tal and that he should reach there. “By the time I reached the hospital with my nephew Ankur, my daughter had died,” Anil told the cops, alleging that, “Her in- laws have killed her as they used to often beat her up for dowry.”

The police are now questioning Jatin, his father Indrajeet Arora and mother Vani Arora.

“We have taken few samples from the house and are also questioning neighbours,” the police said, adding that, “We are also scrutinising the woman’s call details.”
