Start against Korea will be crucial: Guru

- AGE CORRESPONDENT

Having lost the opening tie against Malaysia, the Indian men will have their task cut out against a formidable South Korean side in their Thomas Cup Pool C match here on Monday.

If Malaysia are relying on performances of their singles player including top- ranked Lee Chong Wei, South Korea have a tough doubles combination in their ranks. And the way Korea won their tie against Germany 3- 2on the day, riding on the doubles stars world no. 10 Yoo Yeon Seong and Lee Yong Dae, and Kim Sa Rang and Ko Sung Hyun Ko, India would need a miracle to overcome the Asian powerhouse.

However, R. M. V Gurusaidutt, who won his tie against Malaysia, felt anything was possible in the group stages.

“If we win against Korea 4- 1 and pull off an easy win against Germany, then we will definitely go into the quarterfinals. So, I really wanted to go for a win from the first point itself.

“The start is going to be very important tomorrow. We will have a team meeting tonight to discuss our strategy,” said Gurusaidutt on Monday’s match.

On his win against Malaysia’s Darren Liew, the 30th- ranked Indian said, “It was a real confidence booster because the team spirit is really high. We all played good matches though ended up on the losing side.”

Meanwhile, the Malaysian side were overjoyed with the 41 result.
