Online humour gets MODI- fied

All in good humour, the online community is just getting started with jokes, one- liners, celebrating Narendra Modi’s win, and mocking the losers too!

- SAUMYA BHATIA AND VISHAV

While the nation joined in the celebrations of Narendra Modi’s spectacular landslide victory, the other side, i. e. the Netizens, couldn’t resist the temptation from pulling a fast one on the losing parties, witty one- liners about RaGa, fake Gmail account of India’s 15th Prime Minister and much more. Despite soaking in the jubilations, it’s all in a day’s work on Twitterverse! #CongratsNaMo was trending on Twitter.

Sample these tweets; In Genious ?@Bees_ Kut: Modi: Let me tell you a joke.. Mayawati: Ok Modi: Seat!! Mayawati: I didn’t get it Modi: Exactly.. hahahaha!

Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Rahul Gandhi too weren’t spared; RJV ?@RJV4U After 10 long years finally we got a PM who can speak Loud... Stupid silence was killing us all these years. Even politician Omar Abdullah couldn’t resist from expressing his views. He tweeted: BJP : 282/ 427 almost 66% & Congress: 44/ 462 almost 10% Latter reminds me of my engineering semester marks.

Guess, fun never stops on the social media. In fact it’s only the beginning. Entrepreneur Nisha Sharma Somaia believes it was time politicians were seen as one of us and social media offers a platform where they’re more human in our eyes. She says, “It’s so much fun to see us developing a sense of humour, especially the ability to laugh at ourselves and not take life too seriously. In the past, politicians were like the Holy Grail. The way social media has evolved, no one’s spared.”

Endless debates on television, Facebook, even Twitter put off Mallika Sinha Kundu, a PR professional. Finally, she’s able to take it easy. In her words, “Thank God for the election results, at least the jokes on parties and leaders made me laugh. Any day better to read these than see your page filled with selfies and pictures of food, couple and babies!”

The Unreal Times came up with a hilarious fake Gmail account of Modi with him get- ting mails from Sonia Gandhi, Manmohan Singh, Rajdeep Sardesai and even Rahul Gandhi. Ashwin Kumar, columnist at The Unreal

Times, says, “There has been a tremendous rise in public appetite for humour in last few years. Jokes on political issues spread faster and wider than serious articles. And elections is like open season to go after the politicians. You can even get away with a joke or two that you might not otherwise.”

When asked about the idea about the fake Gmail account, Ashwin adds, “The fake Gmail is one of the toughest formats as you put 15- 20 jokes in one frame. So of course, it’s worth the effort only when there’s some big news about someone. And Modi is the man of the moment. It’s only natural he’ll be the center of conversation not only in political sphere, but also in the parallel world of social media.”

Author Deepak Rana, who’s active on FB with his witty jokes and one- liners, still maintains it when asked about his views on elections, “While UPA marginally missed the escape velocity of Jupiter ( 59) the storm that striked on 16th proved many things, like — Mayawati's elephants perform better than her MPs, the average age of Chandigarh men is quite high ( because Kirron won over Gul Panag), Tata Nano has more seats than AAP. Congress claims that saffron colour all over India will harm the environment, but the BJP has denied the claims, saying - the fool is growing in the country. But in the end we all know, BJP was secondary, it was a NaMo show.”
