DPCC aims to win back old loyalists

- PREETY ACHARYA

The Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee is collecting data on old Congress activists, who were active in the party before and close to the year 1993, in order to get back the support of old loyalists. The party is also collecting data on loyal Congress supporters and their families, in order to woo the younger generation. Recently, the party has been facing a tough time as some of its MLAs publicly admitted that they were interested in helping the Aam Aadmi Party to form a government in spite of the party’s reluctance.

DPCC chief Arvinder Singh Lovely has taken the decision to identify old party activists and supporters in order to unify the party. “No party can perform if you don’t have loyal party workers and supporters. We have decided to get in touch with all the senior old Congress loyalists to get their guidance and to give them their due,” said Mr Lovely.

The party will get in touch with all the previous MLAs, office- bearers and supporters who have been with the Congress for over two decades. The observers appointed by the DPCC have been asked to get in touch with these Congress activists and supporters and motivate them to again to start getting active in the party activities.

If the Congress supporters and activists have died in the interim, their families will be contacted by these observers to bring them close to the party again.

Most of the old Congress activists and supporters and their family members have not even received any membership forms for the last many years. The DPCC has already started getting in touch with these people and the response have been good so far, with some complaints about the long neglect they have faced.

“The response of the senior Congressmen have been fantastic, they were happy and surprised to receive a call from the DPCC. We will be involving them in the party activities and their experience will help us in bouncing back. These people have no selfish motives and if they will get active, it will be a great help for the party,” added Mr Lovely.
