Modi to visit civic centre in August
The Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Civic Centre will be receiving its most high- profile guest as Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit the venue for the BJP national council meeting in August.
The centre is the city’s tallest building.
North Delhi Municipal Corporation ( NDMC) mayor Yogender Chandolia confirmed that the meeting will be held in the Kedarnath Sahni auditorium of the Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Civic Centre.
“Auditorium has been booked for BJP national council meeting to be held on August 9,” Mr Chandolia said.
The senior party leadership in the NDMC will be meeting on Monday to discuss the course of preparations for the BJP’s national council meeting.
A well- placed source in the civic body said that an elaborate plan will be made to welcome the Prime Minister to the tallest building of national capital.
“Every corner of the building will be properly cleaned and decorated with flowers. Flower pots would be placed at all the prominent points in and outside building. Decorative light will be put on the building,” said the source.
Other plan will be decided in the Monday meeting to be attended by the mayor, chairman standing committee, Leader of House and heads of other committees.
The BJP’ national council meeting will be held at 1,000- seat auditorium named after senior BJP leader and former mayor of city, Kedarnath Sahni.
The auditorium is quipped with the latest technology like digital multimedia projector facility for the organisers. Both video and audio recording facilities are also available for recording the meeting proceedings in the auditorium.
Public address systems are connected to prefunction area and lounge.
The building houses the headquarters of two municipal corporations — the NDMC and the South Delhi Municipal Corporation.
It has already started renting out the auditorium since October 5, 2013 to individuals, institutes and organisations to hold official, cultural, social and educational functions.
