Get drenched in the colours of Korea as the globally popular music phenomenon, the K- pop festival is back in the capital and this time it’s even bigger and better. Organised by the Korean cultural centre, this will be the third edition of the music festival in India.

Korean pop music, better known as Kpop, is a music genre from South Korea, consisting of dance- pop, pop ballad, electronic, rock, hip- hop, R& B and is usually characterised by the wide variety of audio visual elements it incorporates. The great Korean wave hit the world with Gangnam

style and revolutionised the music industry across the globe. “We are trying to promote Korean culture in India which will also help to strengthen the Indo- Korean bond,” says Kim Kung P- Young, director of the Korean cultural centre.

K- pop debuted in India in the year 2012, where auditions were conducted only in Delhi. Following the good response from the audience, this year’s auditions will be held in Delhi, Chennai, Demapore and Mumbai at a much larger level. The finale of the festival will be held in August in Delhi and the winners will get a chance to perform at the world K- pop festival in South Korea. “K- pop provides a wonderful platform to young artistes to showcase their talent. For instance, last year’s winners of the festival were from an extremely poor section of society, but having got the opportunity to perform at an international level, they prospere,” he shares.
