The 10- year UPA rule came under sharp attack in the BJP’s National Council meeting here on Saturday, which unveiled the new government’s future plans and policy prescription in domestic and foreign affairs arena in a political resolution, which hailed the “strong and able” leadership of Narendra Modi.

Launching a frontal attack on the erstwhile UPA government, finance minister Arun Jaitley on Saturday termed the previous dispensation as a “liability on the economy” with its buzz words being “tax terrorism” and “policy paralysis” and accused the Congress of being obstructionist as an Opposition party.

Moving the ‘ Political Resolution’ at the BJP National Council meeting here, the minister also accused the Congress of not being able to “digest” its worst defeat and the party’s inability to accept the people’s verdict.

“The mandate of this election has been accepted very humbly by the BJP leadership, but Congress is not able to digest their worst defeat. The desperation is clearly visible. Their scramble for the post of LoP, their opposition to the bills which they presented during their tenure and disruption of Parliament shows their inability to accept the people’s verdict,” Mr Jaitley said, while moving the resolution.

In the resolution, the finance minister said the NDA government’s decision to constitute SIT was in line with the party’s promise to bring back black money from abroad while underlining that there was a challenge to bring the economy back on track which had got “completely derailed due to policy paral- ysis during the Congressled UPA government.”

“The government through its maiden Budget has converted these challenges into opportunity. On the other hand, soon after coming to power, the BJP government has shown its earnestness to check inflation by taking strong measures to stabilise prices of essential commodities,” he said.

Terming the UPA regime as a “liability” on India’s economy, Mr Jaitley said “they want to continue to be a liability even when they are in Opposition.”

Accusing the Congress of carrying out “institutional subversion” in governance, the minister alleged that the UPA government persistently refused to set up an SIT to bring back black money stashed away in foreign shores to the country.

The resolution also praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Bhutan, Nepal and Brazil for the Brics Summit with Mr Jaitley said the Brics Bank was named as New Development Bank as per a suggestion given by the PM.

“The headquarters of this Bank will be in Shanghai and its first Chairman will be from India. China which wanted a bigger share in this Bank had to settle with equal share along with other member countries because of initiatives taken by India,” the resolution said.

It also lauded Mr Modi’s efforts to reach out to Nepal and recalled that US Secretary of State has appreciated the mantra of ‘ sabka sath- sabka vikas’ of Mr Modi.
