Shah sets full- majority target...

Continued from Page 1 saying: “We have to form a strong government under the leadership of the BJP.”

“For long, the Congress vichar ( thought) has been predominant in the country’s politics. Now, it is time to ensure that our vichar ( thought) has an imprint on the nation’s politics... The country is yet to be rid of the Congress. The cadres should keep this in mind... We need to ensure that we get absolute majority in all these ( poll- bound) states. This is our foremost priority, but our long- term objective is to provide good governance to the entire country,” he said, addressing party workers and leaders at the conclave.

Describing the Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir as “very important”, Mr Shah asked party cadres from across the country to put in efforts to see that the saffron party forms the government. He said the state is fed up of the “two families”. In Haryana, where a section within the BJP wants to snap ties with Kuldeep Bishnoi’s HJC and form an alliance with Om Prakash Chautala’s INLD, the BJP chief said party workers should ensure victory on their own. Mr Shah, however, did not name any ally.

“Good governance can be delivered only by ideology- inspired leadership. As we all know, ideological commitments have gone a long way in making our Prime Minister and chief ministers enviable icons of good governance,” he said.

Hailing the duo — his predecessor Rajnath Singh and Mr Modi — for the BJP’s electoral victory, Mr Shah said he will seek guidance from seniors, cooperation from colleagues and support from the party’s rank and file in running the organisation. He also asked party workers to make sure that the BJP is strengthened at every booth level and the Lok Sabha verdict should not make them complacent.

Taking a dig at the Congress, Mr Shah said not only did the BJP’s “historic victory” mark the “beginning of the end of the Congress era”, the mandate was so “decisive in our favour that it reduced the Congress’ tally below the required mark to become a recognised Opposition party in the Lok Sabha”.

Mr Shah said while achieving power is “just one part of our larger objective... a prosperous India and a cohesive society is our ultimate goal”. He also stressed that the BJP’s “very existence is for our ideology” and partymen must remember that “nationalism is our inspiration and antyodaya ( serving even the last man in the queue) our ultimate goal”.

He also asked cadres not to take as a “routine” affair the proposed membership drive of the BJP from November 1 and ensure that every booth has BJP workers and every college and university should have a stall for membership through e- registration.

Hitting out at the Akhilesh Yadav government in Uttar Pradesh, Mr Shah said the law and order situation in the state is a matter of “serious concern” because of its “biased” attitude. He claimed that law and order in the state is decided on the basis of “religion”.

“We have to exercise restraint. But we have to spread awareness about the vote- bank and appeasement policy being followed by the state government,” Mr Shah said.

Complimenting Team Modi for a “strong foundation” and giving a “solid roadmap” to the country in the last 75 days, Mr Shah appealed to the party’s ministers to come out with a time- bound plan to implement the promises made by the BJP.
