Fulfil people’s aspirations, says Advani

- AGE CORRESPONDENT

Senior BJP leader L. K. Advani on Saturday asked BJP workers and leaders to work towards fulfilling the aspirations of the people who have voted for the party in the recent elections.

The former deputy prime minister said the party and the government would be judged by the conduct of cadres in public and the way they deal with the people in their day- to- day lives. “There was a sense of accountability and responsibility in the speeches delivered during today’s conclave,” he said and added that the arrangements at the National Council meeting proved that those attending the conclave have no arrogance of victory.

Taking a dig at Congress, he said while BJP crossed the 272 mark in the Lok Sabha even though people questioned the target set by Narendra Modi, the previous ruling party got just 44 seats and it could not even open an account in some states.

The former deputy prime minister recalled how RSS helped Jan Sangh develop in various parts of the country with the help of dedicated RSS cadre. Mukherjee had asked Guruji to help him spread the network of Jan Sangh, as his area of influence was limited to West Bengal. Mr Advani also praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressing confidence that he will live up to people’s expectations in a similar way he led the organisation to a stupendous electoral victory.

“I am sure he ( Modi) will fulfil people’s expectations from the new government in a similar way he led the party and its campaign. Nobody expected that we will achieve such a miraculous victory,” Mr Advani said.

Speaking in support of the political resolution moved by Arun Jaitley, Madhya Pradesh chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan revived the “Jayanti Tax” barb to attack the UPA over “delay” in clearance of projects in the name of environmental safeguards.
