Seven supporters of Qadri were killed as they clashed with security forces and took seven policemen hostage in different parts of Punjab province
The Pakistan government is set to write a letter to the Canadian government to cancel the nationality of Pakistan Awami Tehrik ( PAT) chief Tahirul Qadri, who is leading his activists to bring a “revolution” in the country. “The legal experts have prepared the letter for the cancellation of Tahirul Qadri’s Canadian nationality,” said a government official. “The letter has been handed over to the Punjab government which will be sent to the federal govern- ment,” he added. In the letter, the Punjab government has maintained that Tahirul Qadri has been involved in various extraconstitutional and illegal activities in the country, adding that several cases have also been registered against him in Pakistan. Informing the Canadian government that investigation was underway, the letter requests the authorities to cancel Tahirul Qadri’s nationality. Punjab law minister Rana Mashood also confirmed that the letter will be sent to federal government from where it will be forwarded to the Canadian government.
Rana Mashood said a copy of the letter will also be sent to the Canadian embassy.
Meanwhile, seven supporters of Qadri were killed and over 200 injured as they clashed with security forces and took seven policemen hostage in different parts of Punjab province ahead of the anti- government march. Fighting between security forces and supporters of Qadri began on Friday and continued on Saturday as the police blocked roads to Lahore to stop the religious leader’s planned rally against the government.
