To infuse a spirit of patriotism and nationalism among the people, the North Delhi Municipal Corporation ( NDMC) has decided to showcase the freedom struggle through a four- day laser show on the outer glass wall of city’s tallest building, Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Civic Centre.

According to the a senior official of the civic body, laser show will starts from August 13 and ends on August 16. “Theme of show will revolve around the different aspects of Indian freedom struggle, besides highlighting the various watershed movements during the tryst for indepen- dence,” he said.

The idea behind the show is to infuse the spirit of patriotism and nationalism amongst the people, especially the younger generations who had been deprived of their glorious heritage of valour and unparalleled sacrifices due to lack of knowledge.

This laser show will be meant for the people passing through the Jawaharlal Nehru Marg. It could be watched by the public from outside the building. “The laser shows will be based on the independence struggle and will be screened through latest technology. Patriotic massages and quotes of freedom fighters and leaders will also be shown,” he added. However, whole concept of show is yet to approved by the municipal commissioner.

Confirming the decision, director ( press and information), NDMC, Yogender Singh Maan told this newspaper that a decision has been taken in this regard. “Municipal commissioner P. K. Gupta has approved the idea and it will be held for three hours after sunset from August 13. Glass wall of A block will be used for the purpose. Show will end by 11 pm,” Mr Maan added.

Apart from laser show, the corporation has decided to illuminate the 112- metre tall building with decorative lights. This is the first time that the corporation will be organising such shows on the occasion of Independence Day.
