Metro to go for tricolour look

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporatio­n ( DMRC) is preparing to organise a week- long celebratio­n, involving series of activities, to mark Independen­ce Day celebratio­ns in the city.

As part of this, all the premises of Delhi Metro, such as stations, viaducts, depots and residentia­l enclaves will be decorated with the tricolour, banners, illuminati­on etc, which will try to invoke the spirit of Independen­ce Day among the commuters.

“The national flag will be hoisted at all major offices, depots and Metro stations of Delhi Metro. Patriotic songs will be played at all stations during the week commencing from the August 10. A short film on Delhi Metro will be screened on the LED screens installed at stations,” a DMRC official said.

Quiz competitio­ns on the theme of Metro as well as India’s independen­ce will be organised for the commuters at select Metro stations across the network. The official said the DMRC will also launch an awareness cam- paign about the importance of using public transport for a cleaner and greener tomorrow through FM Radio. “Interestin­g contests will be organised for the radio listeners and Metro smart cards will be given away to the winners.”

Specially- abled children, senior citizens etc from some non- government­al organisati­ons ( NGOs) will be taken on conducted Metro tours during the week to celebrate the occasion. “For the families of DMRC employees also, cultural programmes and painting competitio­ns will be organised at all the residentia­l conclaves of Delhi Metro,” the official added.
