Child traffickin­g racket busted by cops, 2 arrested

With the arrest of two, including a woman, the Delhi police’s crime branch on Saturday claimed to have unearthed a child traffickin­g gang active in the capital. A minor boy who was sold to a childless couple has also been rescued.

Additional commi- ssioner of police ( Crime) Ashok Chand said that on March 30, a woman had come to Delhi along with her family at Delhi Cantonment railway station from Rajasthan. The next day, when the woman’s daughter and son were playing at their relative’s house, two women after sedating the girl kidnapped the complainan­t’s son. The police was approached by the family members and a case was registered at the Mayapuri police station.

On August 27, a tip- off was received that two persons involved in child traffickin­g would come to Janakpuri Metro station after which a trap was laid and the two, including a woman, were apprehende­d. They were identified as Guljar Singh alias Gulzari, 33, and Surender Kaur alias Peeri, 37.

Mr Chand said that during interrogat­ion, they revealed that Kaur after her marriage in Punjab had shifted to Delhi and had two children from the first wedlock. However, she separated from her husband and returned to Punjab. She then married one Dalbir Singh and again shifted to Delhi with him about eight months

A minor boy has been rescued. ago. “The landlord couple where Kaur and Dalbir stayed in Delhi’s Khayala area was childless,” said the police, adding that, “Kaur, who had first joined her associate Gulzar Singh alias Gulzari’s property dealing business, hatched a plan to steal a child and sell it to the couple to earn some money.” She roped in Neetu Kaur, another tenant at the same premises.

“Gulzari tipped Kaur about small children of poor families near railway stations, who can be soft targets,” said the police, adding that, “On April 1, Kaur and Neetu went to Delhi cantonment railway station and spotted the complainan­t’s two children playing and kidnapped the boy after sedating her five- year- old sister.” The police said that the boy was then sold the boy to the landlord couple for ` 50,000 on the pretext that he is the son of Gulzari’s brother.

The police added that Kaur is involved in cases of kidnapping in Rajasthan as well and they are further investigat­ing the matter.
