Jovetic making his presence felt
Before the beginning of last season, Manchester City signed a youngster from Fiorentina- Stevan Jovetic for £ 25 million. Brought in as the replacement for the offloaded Mario Balotelli to Milan, Jovetic was supposed to be the signing that gave the striking department the depth they needed to challenge for the title.
But with injuries curtailing his presence on the field to just 13 appearances, Sergio Aguero and Alvaro Negredo forming a formidable partnership and Edin Dzeko showing his golden touch late in the season, the Montenegro star never managed to stamp his authority in the side. But this season it seems like the striker is set to make his presence felt. There is hardly any doubt that Jovetic is an upgrade from the afore- mentioned Italian striker, who are both of the same age.
While Balotelli, talented as he is, has always been bit of a loose cannon with his attitude off the pitch and his frequent moodiness on it and ability to disappear from the game when things don’t go his side’s way, Jovetic is hard working and easy to manage for his side.
While there were many who thought he was destined for greatness when he came in with a sturdy reputation that he had built in Italy, Jovetic has won over the other side also with his recent purple patch and hard working display.
Comfortable up front alone or with a partner, last week’s display against Liverpool showed the former Viola man put in his best performance in the sky blue shirt.
Running the channels, back tracking in defence, clinical with the ability to beat his man and most of all his penchant for sniffing out dangerous positions and take advantage has made him a marked man in the mind of all opposition defenders and managers. It is almost as if City has a new player to their roster and looks to be the one that has all to prove as City strive to keep the Premier League title in the blue half of Manchester.
