Police beefs up security for Happy New Year stars after attack on producer

- AGE CORRESPONDENT

The Mumbai police has beefed up security of all the big stars that are part of the upcoming film Happy New Year , anticipating threats from an underworld gangster.

Deputy commissioner of police and Mumbai police spokesperson, Dhananjay Kulkarni, confirmed that security had been given to stars who are part of the film. It is learnt from reliable police sources that gangster Ravi Pujari is behind the threats, but the police is refusing to confirm the same.

The film directed by choreographer Farah Khan stars Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone, Abhishek Bachchan, Sonu Sood, Boman Irani and Vivaan Shah.

When asked if Boman was given security as well, Mr Kulkarni confirmed, but refused to divulge details about security cover for the rest of the actors. It is learnt that Boman, too, got a threat from the underworld, but Mr Kulkarni neither denied nor confirmed the development.

Earlier, lead actor Shah Rukh was given added security at his residence and office in the western suburbs. The same gangster made a phone call at his office landline asking him not to work with producer Ali Morani.

An officer said no additional security was given to Abhishek, who already has adequate security cover. Police sources said that Pujari wanted overseas rights of the film and wanted producer Morani to convince Shah Rukh to get him the deal.
