In Valley, Army reaches out with goodwill gestures
In a slew of ‘ people- friendly’ measures, the Army organised cricket tournaments, activity centres & tours
It was a weekend of exhibiting goodwill towards people of Jammu and Kashmir “in the best possible way” by the Army.
Under its Sadbhavana programme and other “Awam Doast” ( people- friendly) activity, the Army began the day ( Saturday) with organising a cricket tournament with active participation of the local police at Wathoar in central district of Budgam. “The event was organised to inculcate spirit of sportsmanship and competitions among the local youths,” a statement issued by the Army here said. It added that the event provided the youth also a platform to interact with officials of the police, ( Army’s) Rashtriya Rifles and civil administrative.
Three local teams participated in the tournament with players of each “exhibiting tremendous enthusiasm”.
On Sunday, a multi- activity centre with a library, computer lab and Internet facility, created by Army under Sadhbhavana in southern Shopian was inaugurated by sector commander of the Rashtriya Rifles. “The centre has been established following a popular demand by the local youth and will go a long way in enabling their learning and creative use of time,” the Army said.
The inauguration was followed by a friendly cricket match between the Army and local players. Speaking on the occasion, the RR sector commander asked the local youth to make the best out of this facility for career guidance, educating themselves on job opportunities and preparing for various competitive exams.
Meanwhile, a four- day Kashmir Valley tour, Sair- eAman, organised by the Army for a group of 12 students belonging to Tangdhar area, close to the LoC, was on Sunday flagged off along the Sadhna pass.
