- SHASHI BHUSHAN

Union health minister Dr Harsh Vardhan has appealed to the faculty of medical colleges to include simulation as a training method. He stressed to use its effectiveness as a bridge between “didactic” medical teaching through lectures, tutorials, laboratory work and problem- based learning is being increasingly acknowledged the world over. The minister exhorted specialist doctors to visit hill stations on a holiday so they could deliver their professional services while simultaneously enjoying the state government’s hospitality with their fami- lies. Launching the World Simulation Society ( WSS) in the conference of the Society of Cardiac Anaesthesiology ( SCA) on Sunday, Dr Vardhan said that he is happy to learn that India is keeping pace with global technical advancements and the simulation training facilities will go a long way to facilitate doctors and students to learn and practice more comfortably and precisely.

Dr Harsh Vardhan admitted that setting up “adult” simulation equipment — paediatric ones are still under development — may be expensive and only affordable for very few institutions, there exist low- cost options like simulation mannequins.
