THE NDA government’s overdrive to get rid of governors appointed by the previous UPA government has resulted in the resignation of nine governors. These nine governors had no choice. Instead of facing haphazard transfers, which eventually leads to sacking — as evident in the case of 87- year- old governor of Gujarat Kamla Beniwal who was sacked just two months before the end of her tenure — the wise step for them was to resign. They realised that in this game of political one- upmanship, they were being made pawns.
