New Delhi: An Army officer of the rank of major who is currently an aidede- camp to the governor of Arunachal Pradesh has gone missing while vacationing in Europe. The officer — who is from the Special Forces — was taking part in adventure sports in Spain where he was on a holiday.

An Army officer of the rank of major, who is currently an aide- decamp ( ADC) to the governor of Arunachal Pradesh, has gone missing while the officer was vacationing in Europe. The officer — who is from the special forces — was taking part in adventure sports in Spain where he went vacationing. The Army is probing whether the officer was injured and is therefore untraceable or whether he has deserted the Army.

Sources said the Army is also in touch with Indian diplomats on the whereabouts of the officer. “One of the angles being looked at is whether the officer has deserted the Army. The officer had not taken permission from the Military Intelligence ( MI) before going abroad on vacation as is the practice,” defence sources said. Defence- watchers say that if the officer has deserted the Army and vanished in Europe without a trace, it is indeed a very serious matter. However, when contacted, Government sources said it would be unfair to speculate even before the facts have been fully ascertained. Sources pointed out that the Army is also probing whether the officer was badly injured during the adventure sports activities and was therefore untraceable.
