AP DEPUTY CM NAMES RAPE VICTIM IN HOUSE

- AGE CORRESPONDENT

In a major gaffe, AP deputy chief minister and in charge of home affairs Nimmakayala China Rajappa on Monday named a rape victim in the House and also divulged full details of the victim like her occupation, age, caste, and other particulars. The details thus became part of the AP Legislative Council’s official proceedings and none of the members, including women members who had raised the issue of growing atrocities against women, noticed the mistake or objected when the minister read out a statement with these details. TD members in the Legislative Council, Ms Nannapaneni Rajakumari, Ms P. Samanthakamani along with Ms A. Lakshmi Siva Kumari and Ms Balashali Indira, under Rule 70, had called for the attention of the minister for Home on the growing atrocities on women. Mr Rajappa read out the statement and later assured that the AP government will take all measures to prevent crime against women and sexual assaults and promised stringent action.
