AP DEPUTY CM NAMES RAPE VIC­TIM IN HOUSE

In a ma­jor gaffe, AP deputy chief min­is­ter and in charge of home af­fairs Nim­makay­ala China Ra­jappa on Mon­day named a rape vic­tim in the House and also di­vulged full de­tails of the vic­tim like her oc­cu­pa­tion, age, caste, and other par­tic­u­lars. The de­tails thus be­came part of the AP Leg­isla­tive Coun­cil’s of­fi­cial pro­ceed­ings and none of the mem­bers, in­clud­ing women mem­bers who had raised the is­sue of grow­ing atroc­i­ties against women, no­ticed the mis­take or ob­jected when the min­is­ter read out a state­ment with th­ese de­tails. TD mem­bers in the Leg­isla­tive Coun­cil, Ms Nan­na­pa­neni Ra­jaku­mari, Ms P. Sa­man­thaka­mani along with Ms A. Lak­shmi Siva Ku­mari and Ms Balashali Indira, un­der Rule 70, had called for the at­ten­tion of the min­is­ter for Home on the grow­ing atroc­i­ties on women. Mr Ra­jappa read out the state­ment and later as­sured that the AP gov­ern­ment will take all mea­sures to pre­vent crime against women and sex­ual as­saults and promised strin­gent ac­tion.
