New Delhi: Eighteen gamblers were arrested from a five- star hotel in New Delhi district on Sunday and were booked under the Public Gambling Act. Interestingly, the sources revealed, that the accused, residents of trans-Yamuna areas, had opted for the five- star hotel to avoid police scrutiny. “As there has been a constant crackdown on such elements in east Delhi and other areas the accused decided to execute their acts in fivestar hotels to avoid police detection,” said the police. ACP S. B. S. Tyagi said that they are scrutinising the role of the hotel staff as they failed to report such largescale use of their premises for gambling and other such illegal activities. The case has been registered at the Parliament Street police station.
