Union finance minister Arun Jaitley on Tuesday underwent a planned elective laparoscopic procedure for diabetes management at a private hospital in the capital.

The laparoscopic procedure for diabetes management was carried out at Max Hospital, Saket in South Delhi. A press statement issued by the Max Hospital said, “Union minister Arun Jaitley underwent a planned elective laparoscopic procedure for diabetes management under Dr Pradeep K Chowbey at the Max Super Speciality Hospital, Saket, today. The procedure has been performed successfully”.

BJP also in a press note confirmed that Mr Jaitley successfully underwent elective laparoscopic procedure for diabetes management. Mr Jaitley was admitted to the hospital around 6 pm on Monday and had underwent rou- tine blood and cardiac investigations before the surgery. “It was a planned surgery. The surgery is done in an uncontrolled diabetic situation,” said a hospital sources.

In a planned elective laparoscopic procedure, doctors staple the stomach and make a small pouch of stomach and connect it to the intestine. Thus the food from the small pouch goes to the intestine directly. All this is done endoscopically and laparoscopically. According to sources, Mr Jaitley’s condition is fine.
