Pak CJ says no association with PTI chief
Pakistan Chief Justice Nasir– ul– Mulk on Tuesday said that he has no direct or indirect contact with Pakistan Tehrik- e- Insaf ( PTI) chief Imran Khan.
Clarifying his position after PTI president Javed Hashmi’s statement said that Army and judiciary were supporting Mr Khan’s movement against the government, the top judge said he had met Mr Khan only once in life. His comments came during the hearing of possible extra constitutional steps against the government. A four judge bench headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Nasir– ul– Mulk is hearing the case which was later on adjourned till September 3.
During the proceedings, the chief justice also said that while it was not his place to issue clarifications over allegations of bias, he said he only met with Mr Khan along with latter’s counsel Hamid Khan when he was the acting Chief Election Commissioner.
The CJP went on to say that it was the maiden meeting between them and it was regarding the introduction of biometric system of voting in Khyber Pukhtunkaw.
The chief justice remarked that Election Commission of Pakistan secretary and three PTI members were also present during that meeting. “That was the only time we met,” he maintained.
Earlier, the court observed that the time has come that the apex court should define the limitations of fundamental rights of citizens as the court was duty- bound to enforce these rights in their true letter and spirit.
