Delhi police personnel will now be seen riding bicycles while patrolling in congested areas of the Walled City and parks of North Delhi with a view to check crimes such as snatching. Eight high- performance geared bicycles have been recently bought by the Delhi police for beat constables to patrol identified areas in the morning and evening hours. “Snatchers have been targeting morning and evening walkers in parks. As motorcycles cannot be used in these areas, policemen will patrol these areas on bicycles,” a police officer said. In Kotwali area, beat constables will patrol from 8 am to 10 am in the morning and 4 pm to 6 pm in the evening around Red Fort, Moat Road, New Daryaganj Road, Delhi Chalo Park, Gyan Path and 15 August Park Red Fort. Similar patrolling will take place in Company Bagh, Metro Park, Mahila Park Kachcha Bagh from 6 am to 10 am and 4 pm to 6 pm. One bicycle is being used for patrolling in Delhi University area while another one is being used in Roopnagar area, the police said. “This will help us keep a tab on illegal activities,” said DCP Madhur Verma.
