MAN ARRESTED FOR SELLING ‘ SEX SELECTION’ KIT
A joint team of the food and drug administration, the police and the health department on Tuesday caught a person red- handed when he was selling medical kit for sex selection. According to the Haryana health secretary and commissioner of food and drug administration Rakesh Gupta, a threemember team was constituted to catch the accused following tip- off that kits of medicines were being sold through online deals for pre- conception sex selection. Mr Gupta claimed this is a unique case in the country where medicine is being used for preconception sex selection, which is illegal and punishable under the PreConception and Pre- Natal Diagnostic Techniques ( PCPNDT) Act. He said the accused, named Sanjay Khatana, is a resident of Delhi and attracted the couples desiring to have a male child through a website. After obtaining request and money, he used to send the kit through courier to them. He runs an office on Bristol Lawrence Road in Delhi. The accused used to sell a kit for 6,000, he claimed.
