Govt to act against fraud pensioners

Taking strict action against people giving false informatio­n to seek pensions under the old age scheme, the city administra­tion will prosecute those availing the scheme by providing false informatio­n.

In Delhi, an old age pension of ` 1,000 per month is provided to the age group ( 60- 69 years) and ` 1,500 is given to those above 70 years.

Elderly belonging to the SC/ ST category get ` 500 as an additional amount.

“It has come to our notice that several government pensioners ( exemployee­s of government, qasi - government , autonomous bodies) drawing pensionary benefits ( his/ her own or that of spouse) or family pensions are also availing the above- mentioned pensions. All such persons are hereby notified to get their assistance cancelled and reimburse the money remitted to them,” said principal secretary ( social welfare) Satbir Bedi.

“If such persons are identified during the verificati­on exercise, appropriat­e penal and legal action under the Indian Penal Code/ CrPC and any other laws applicable will be taken against such persons,” she added.

The bureaucrat added that the department of social welfare implements schemes of financial assistance to senior citizens and disabled persons of Delhi who are destitute or without adequate financial support.

“This scheme is available only to those who are not already receiving government pension or any other similar financial assistance from the state or Central government or civic bodiesor any other source for this purpose, including financial assistance schemes of social welfare, women and child developmen­t department­s or any other state department,” she said.

She further informed that the department has started accepting new applicatio­n forms under Old Age Pension Scheme for persons above 60 years of age, who have been residing in Delhi for a minimum 5 years and whose annual income ( along with their spouse) is not more than ` 60,000. “Forms are available in the respective district office or can be downloaded from the website www. socialwelf­are. delhigovt. nic. in,” she said.
