After playing negative roles on telly, he’s happy to play a romantic lead in Qubool Hai

After playing the bad guy in Kasautii Zindagi Kay and Dil Se Di Dua… Saubhagyavati Bhava , Karanvir Bohra is very pleased with his new role as the romantic hero in Qubool Hai. “That was one of the major reasons why I took up Ahil’s role. I was tired of playing the bad guy. Even my fans have been writing to me saying they’re happy that I have taken to a different type of character. Being romantic suits me apparently,” says Karanvir.

Fans had predicted doom for Qubool Hai after the original lead Karan Singh Grover quit, but surprisingly the show has picked up again after Karanvir’s entry. The actor admits that he was apprehensive about stepping in after Karan’s exit. “There were a lot of things being said when I entered the show. I realised that people would feel betrayed if I played the same character that Karan ( Singh) played. So when I came in, it was a categorical leap for the show, almost like a second season. Just the other day I was at Ekta Kapoor’s party and she and her mum Shobha aunty told me how much they love the young romance in Qubool Hai; it made me feel that we are heading in the right direction.”

But he believes that what is also working for him is his chemistry with co- star Surbhi ( Jyoti). So what kind of a rapport do they share off screen? “She is easy going and we hit it off since day one. We don’t try too hard for the romantic scenes and aren’t uncomfortable shooting them. She is bubbly, lively and has a lot of energy.”

There are leads of popular soaps who can’t stand each other offscreen and Karanvir says he would never like to fall into that category. “Yes I know some onscreen couples who don’t even talk to each other in real life. I often wonder how they shoot. To get involved in a scene, it is important to have a good vibe off screen and that shows,” says Karanvir.

The actor is currently enjoying the festive season and has a Ganesh idol at home. “The atmosphere at home is festive. I shoot all day and come home to attend to guests, it’s a lot of fun catching up with everyone.”

Karanvir also has an upcoming South film he’s working on. “Yes talks are on. That character is somewhat like Prem from Kasautii Zindagi Kay . Then I also have a Hindi film, Mumbai 125 km releasing soon. Life looks good.”
