New Delhi: The NDA government has provided yoga exponent Ramdev with Z- category security cover taking into account his “vulnerability to attacks from his opponents”.
The NDA government has provided yoga exponent Ramdev with a Z- category security cover taking into account his “vulnerability to attacks from his opponents”. The decision to give Central security protection to the yoga guru has been taken by the home ministry after receiving inputs from security agencies and increased perception of threat to Ramdev, official sources said.
The move has also come when the CBI is preparing to close its probe in the case pertaining to the mysterious disappearance of Swami Shankar Dev, founder of Divya Yog Mandir Trust ( Dehra Dun) and also guru of Ramdev. Swami Shankar Dev had gone missing on July 14, 2007 after he went out for a morning walk in Hardwar.
As part of its VIP security review, the MHA has also decided to accord Zplus security to minister of state in the Prime Minister’s Office Jitendra Singh. Mr Singh has been accorded the security cover by virtue of his portfolio in the government.
It may be noted that so far, Ramdev was being given Z- category security by the state government which was only within the jurisdiction of Uttarakhand. But now the Central armed forces personnel from the CRPF will throw a 24- hour security ring around the yoga guru.
Ramdev, who is known for his closeness to the saffron forces is the founder of Hardwar- based Patanjali Yogpeeth. He had met Prime Minister Narendra Modi earlier in November. Ramdev has been vocal for several years demanding action to bring back blackmoney stashed abroad and punishment to those found guilty.
According to the fresh security deployment for Ramdev, he will immediately be given commandos from the Central forces with sources revealing that as many as 40 security personnel will be guarding him round- theclock.
It may be recalled that during the previous UPA government rule, Ramdev had held a public rally for a few days at Ramlila Maidan in the capital in 2011 as part of his anticorruption movement. Following a police crack down, he fled the site donning a woman’s attire.
