MP BJP leader may lead city poll campaign
Citing leadership crisis in the city, the BJP is planning to bring Madhya Pradesh leader Kailash Vijayvargiya to the national capital to improve the party’s chances of wining the upcoming Assembly polls.
Mr Vijayvargiya was the party’s election in- charge for the recently- concluded Haryana polls and might get the responsibility for Delhi too. Madhya Pradesh urban development minister Kailash Vijayvargiya was in- charge of the BJP’s election management in Haryana and played a key role in the party’s victory in the state.
He has been closely- associated with BJP national president Amit Shah and the Haryana election results have strengthened their association. Along with this, Mr Vijayvargiya has cordial relations with Delhi BJP in- charge Prabhat Jha and organisation secretary Vijay Sharma. Similarly, his recent visit to the city for a meeting with several Delhi BJP leaders also seems to be a clear indication that he will oversee the polls.
Ahead of the Assembly polls in the city, the BJP’s national leadership is looking at various options to crack down on all factional infighting which stood in the party’s way of gaining a clear majority in last December’s Assembly elections.
A highly- placed source said, “The camps within the party proved fatal earlier in Delhi. This time, the national leadership would look into it and make appropriate decisions.” Looking into city politics, after Haryana, would be easy for Mr Vijayvargiya as there is not much of a difference between the neighbouring states, the source said.
To crack down on the “war among factions,” the BJP needs a leader who would not encourage the factionalism. Therefore, someone with expertise is required for the party’s victory. The BJP leaders are of the opinion that in Maharashtra polls, if Shiv Sena groups were not encouraged, then definitely factionalism will not be tolerated within the Delhi unit of the party.
Learning its lesson from the last Assembly polls, the BJP said that it would appoint a strong leader, with no favouritism. It is learnt that former election in- charge of Delhi’s Assembly polls, Mr Nitin Gadkari, miserably failed to keep the unit consolidated, which eventually led to the party falling short of a majority.
Crucial decisions on the Delhi polls will be taken on Tuesday, when Mr Shah will hold detailed meetings with Delhi BJP leaders.
