Man jumps to death in Nehru Place

- AGE CORRESPONDENT

A 28- year- old man committed suicide by jumping from the terrace of an 18storey building in southeast Delhi’s Nehru Place area on Monday afternoon. The deceased has been identified as Vijendra Singh, a sales manager with a finance company, whose office is located at the seventh floor of the same building.

Initial investigations revealed that Singh called up one of his childhood friends and shared his ordeal just before the incident.

According to the police, the incident took place at about 3 pm. After lunch, Singh went to the terrace of the Devika Tower in Nehru Place and called up his friend.

Even though a few people had gathered on the terrace finding Singh’s activities suspicious, before anyone could react, he jumped from the building. A PCR call was made and Singh was rushed to the hospital where he was declared brought dead by the doctors. His body was sent for autopsy.

The police said that Singh, a resident of Gadhi village near Amar Colony, was the only son of his parents. No suicide note was found from his possession.

“We are questioning his family members and have called his friend whom he made the last call to know what he told him,” said the police, adding that “initial investigations suggest that Singh was under depression.”

“We are also questioning his office colleagues to ascertain whether he faced a problem professionally,” the police said. A case under relevant sections was registered at the Kalkaji police station and the cops are further investigating the matter.
