BJP approaches EC over Shah FIR

- AGE CORRESPONDENT

A delegation of senior BJP leaders, including Union ministers on Thursday approached the Election Commission of India, seeking immediate withdrawal of an FIR against its president Amit Shah for his “Chara chor” ( fodder thief) remarks against RJD chief Lalu Prasad.

The party also demanded action against officials working “under pressure” of the state government.

A delegation, also including Union ministers M. Venkaiah Naidu, Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi and Nirmala Sitharaman, drew EC’s attention to alleged hate speeches of the RJD chief and AIMIM’s Asaduddin Owaisi and sought strong action against them for their remarks.

“An FIR has been registered against the president of a national party. It is very objectionable. We have brought it to the notice of EC and put forth the facts and requested EC that they should hold an immediate inquiry and this FIR should be withdrawn,” Mr Naidu said after the meeting with EC.

He also said that the BJP has asked the Commission to probe the action of those officers working under the pressure of the state government and action should be taken against them.

The party in its memorandum has mentioned that what Mr Shah had said for Mr Prasad was a “factual narration” and BJP president’s statement “merely reflects a statement of fact based upon conviction ( of Prasad) by a competent court.”

The party said however, Mr Prasad used an “absolutely unparliamentary and derogatory expression” against Mr Shah by using the word “Narbhakshi” and in “no civil society wedded with democratic process, such indecent and derogatory words are ever permitted.”

Mr Naidu said the delegation also brought to the notice of EC that while on one hand FIR has been registered against Mr Shah, on the other leaders like Mr Prasad and Mr Owaisi are making “hate” speeches that are aimed at allegedly communalising the Bihar assembly elections and no action is being taken against them.
