Bihar ex- gov’s daughter held for taking bribe
The vigilance and anticorruption cell of Assam on Thursday arrested a project director of department of rural development, Assam, Nandita Konwar, for accepting bribe for releasing the MP Local Area Development Fund.
Ms Konwar, who is the daughter of former Bihar and Tripura governor Devanand Konwar, was caught redhanded by sleuths of the vigilance cell in her chamber in Kamrup Metro district.
“We had received complaints against the officer from contractor Purn Chetri. She was demanding 10 per cent cut for releasing the fund from MPLAD fund of 2013- 14,” additional director- general of police Chandranathan told this newspaper.
On the basis of complaints, the vigilance sleuths laid a trap and she was caught redhanded accepting the bribe of ` 12,000 from Purn Chetri in her chamber. sources said.
It is significant that many MPs have also been accusing of corruption and inordinate delay in release of MPLAD fund to the beneficiaries in Assam.
Mr Devanand Konwar, an officer of Assam Civil Services, has been in thick of many controversies because of her father who was also a minister in previous Congress regime in Assam. Mr Konwar, after differences with Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi, had resigned during the first term of the Gogoi government.
