Delhi down Chennai for first win ISL

New Delhi, Oct. 8: Delhi Dynamos hung on an early goal to beat Chennaiyin FC 1- 0 and record their first win of the Indian Super League Season Two in a closelyfou­ght encounter here on Thursday.

Brazilian Anderson Sebastio Cardoso’s goal from the spot in the eighth minute turned out to be the match- winner as Delhi took three points in their second match after losing to FC Goa in their campaign opener.

Chennaiyin slumped to their second consecutiv­e defeat after losing 2- 3 to defending champions Atletico de Kolkata in their previous match. Marco Materazzi- coached Chennai lacked sting in attack with Steven Mendoza and Balwant Singh failing to combine. Top seeds Sriram Balaji and Vishnu Vardhan cruised into the semi- finals of the Fenesta Open national tennis championsh­ip here on Thursday.

While Balaji led the charge dismantlin­g Siddharth Vishwakarm­a 64, 6- 4 with the Tamil Nadu player playing percentage tennis, defending champion Vardhan had to use all the weapons in his game to beat Alex Solanki 6- 3, 7- 5.

Third seed Mohit Jayaprakas­h and V. M. Ranjeet also advanced in the men’s singles.

Jayaprakas­h needed to use all his skill and guile to beat Sidharth Rawat 6- 3, 6- 4 while Ranjeet dumped Shaikh Abdullah 6- 2, 6- 1.

Earlier in the day, Solanki had also bowed out in the boys’ U- 18 section after a 63, 3- 6, 3- 6 loss to fourth seed Parikshit Somani.

Fifth seed Nitin K. Sinha advanced with a 6- 7 ( 5), 6- 1, 6- 4 win over Abhimany Vannemredd­y.

Among girls, top seeds Zeel Desai, Sathwika Sama, Mahak Jain besides unheralded Prinkle Singh reached the last- four stage.

In the women’s singles, Prerna Bhambri, the fourth seed, toyed with Sowjanya Bavisetti winning 6- 1, 6- 4.

Top seed Snehadevi Reddy had a tough start against Eetee Maheta but finally won with a 1- 6, 6- 3, 61 scoreline.
