UP CM turns to rural voters

- AMITA VERMA

It is now “Gaon Gaon Akhilesh” for the Samajwadi Party in UP which has launched a massive campaign to strengthen its base in the rural interiors of the state. The campaign is led by party workers who will cycle into the villages, accompanied by vans equipped with LED screens.

Besides connecting with the voters, the campaign will make an assessment of the impact that welfare schemes launched by state government have had on the people.

SP general secretary and UP minister for rural development Arvind Singh Gope said, “The campaign is an attempt to reach to the people and inform them about the welfare schemes launched by the UP government. The party workers will also connect to the people and know their problems.”

He said the idea was to inform the people about what the government has done for them, particularly women, farmers and the youth. He said that the campaign would also seek suggestions from the people for better governance and also schemes which they may want.

Through the van fitted with LED screens, short films on the various schemes of the state government will be screened mainly in the rural areas so that people can see what is being done in terms of development. Publicity material in this regard will also be distributed.

In the first phase of the Gaon Gaon Akhilesh, the party plans to cover over 600 villages in Agra, Faizabad and Gorakhpur.

Party sources said the campaign would bring feedback to the party about the working of the government and give it sufficient time to set things in order. “The Akhilesh government has focused on development in a big way and we are now completing four years in office. Through this campaign, we want to check out what lapses have taken place and how we can improve the working of the government,” said a party functionary.
