‘ Yes, my look has become hot topic’

Actor Pearl V. Puri became an instant hearththrob when he played the suave Abheer in his first show Budtameez Dil. Now his second fiction show, Meri Saasu Maa, will present him in a glaringly different avatar as Sattu. He’s a small town guy who wears mostly dhoti- kurtas.

As expected, Pearl’s new look has been cause for much amusement. Tell him that and he says, with tongue firmly in cheek, that he is just trying to make the dhoti sexy. “Yes, my new look has become a hot topic among my fans who were used to seeing my suave self as Abheer. I had to actually mentally prepare myself to take up the character of Sattu. He’s a religious guy, who wears dhoti- kurtas, a rudraksh and a kada. The look is a bit intimidating if you ask me but I love challenges. Besides I really wanted to make dhoti look sexy on screen,” he says.

The actor’s chemistry with Asmita Sood, his costar from his first show, was lapped up instantly by the audience. His current show has him paired opposite Hiba Nawab. Pearl is anxious about the response to the new jodi. “The cast of my previous show was like family. There was a comfort level that we shared. So the chemistry was effortless. I am working with Hiba for the first time. I don’t even know her that well. But she is a great co- star and she’s helping a lot to make our on screen pairing work. Hope the audience likes us,” says Pearl.

Of late, the actor has also been very active on social media. Ask him how he manages to make time, and he says, “If someone makes time for you regularly, then it’s your responsibility also to give them importance. These days I have been wishing my fans on their birthdays with a video. I record a video every day wishing them, during my breaks,” adds the actor with a grin.
