Humera, Mahak in title clash

Second seed Mahak Jain from Madhya Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh’s Humera Shaikh will face- off in the women’s singles final in the second edition of the Rendez-Vous a Roland Garros at the DLTA courts in the capital.

In the first women’s semifinal on Thursday, Mahak made her way to the finals defeating Gujarat’s Akansha Bhan 7- 5, 64, 6- 3.

It was a closely fought battle with the first set being taken by Mahak, but Akansha made a strong comeback in the second. It ultimately boiled down to the third which saw Mahak winning with ease.

In the other match, Humera — who had ousted the top seed Satwika Sama in the quarterfin­als — rallied from a set down to beat Rishika Ravindran of Tamil Naidu 2- 6, 6- 2, 6- 3.

In the men’s category, Adil Kalyanpur from Telangana cruised into the final defeating Abhimanya Vannemredd­y 6- 1 6- 3.

The second semi- final saw Manish Sureshkuma­r of Tamil Naidu battle past local player Alex Solanki in 6- 3, 3- 6, 6- 3 in a marathon affair.

Sureshkuma­r and Kalyankar have shown great skills and excellence this week and it will be interestin­g to see who eventually lifts the trophy.

Meanwhile, brand ambassador of Rendez- Vous Roland Garros in India and former Wimbledon champion Marion Bartoli hosted a clinic for around 50 kids from all parts of the city.
