- AGE CORRESPONDENT

Sushil Kumar’s dream of representing India at the Rio Olympics in the 74kg weight category ended on Monday with the Delhi HC dismissing the wrestler’s plea for a trial ahead of the event in August.

The court’s decision meant Narsingh Yadav — who bagged bronze at the World Championships in Las Vegas last year — will represent India at Rio, unless Sushil decides to approach the SC. Sushil’s coach and father- in- law Satpal Singh said they were yet to take a decision on this. “We need to discuss the matter with our lawyer and Sushil before proceeding.” The decision ended the off- field tussle between the wrestlers over the Olympic berth, which had taken centrestage in the past few days.

New Delhi: Olympic champion Abhinav Bindra on Monday felt spending time away from competition went against star wrestler Sushil Kumar, whose hopes of participating at the Rio de Janerio Olympic Games went up in smoke after the Asked about the two- time Olympic medallist, Bindra said, “The situation is very complicated with him. Actually all the federations should be clear with their policies and make it public even before the qualification of athletes for the Games begins. “Sushil is a legend and whatever he has achieved cannot be denied. But we have not seen him competing for the last two years and maybe it was because of his injury, but that went against him,” Bindra said. —
