BJP calls for white paper on working of Apollo

- AGE CORRESPONDENT NEW DELHI, JUNE 6

Expressing shock over silence of the Delhi government on the role of a hospital in the recently- busted kidney racket, Delhi BJP president Satish Upadhyay demanded that the city government must issue a white paper on the working of Indraprastha Apollo Hospital.

Mr Upadhyay said the way the Delhi government is trying to underplay the issue, there is a possibility of connivance between the Delhi government and the Apollo management. He added that the possibility of similar rackets in other organ transplant surgeries being conducted at this hospital cannot be ruled out.

The Delhi BJP chief alleged the details of the kidney racket at the Apollo Hospital were revealed almost a week ago, but the Delhi government’s health department, which is the licensing authority in the matter, has failed to take any action against the hospital.

“Instead of taking action in Apollo’s matter, the Delhi government issued an advisory to its own hospitals to take care before performing kidney transplants while actually just one Delhi government hospital has this facility,” claimed Mr Upadhyay.

The Delhi BJP chief demanded that the Delhi government should immediately order a thorough inquiry into the working of the Apollo Hospital, which it claimed has become an abode of five- star treatment, along with a check on all hospitals conducting organ transplant surgeries.
