OVER TO THE ‘ DARKER’ SIDE!

- POOJA PRABHAN

Bold lips are quite making a comeback! The recent appearances of celebrities like Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Rihanna and Kylie Jenner painting their pout in darker, unconventional hues testifies just that. But while you’re probably wondering how to ace the bold appeal, we got Bengaluru- based make- up expert Anu Narsepalli to give us a lowdown on the same...

“Darker hues like deep brown and black are for the bold and vivacious. These are not easy shades to carry. But at the same time, worth a try,” shares Anu. “As a rule of thumb, always begin by exfoliating your lips and apply the right shade of concealer on the lips. This gives out a better finish, and shouldn’t be skipped at any cost,” she explains. But post the concealing bit, picking a lip stain over a lipstick is suggested. “It’s always a better idea to stain the centre of your lips and gently mix it across your lips. Also while picking up a dark shade, don’t forget to pay heed to the undertones of the colour. And because the the idea of the trend is to make sure that your lips does the talking, keep everything else to the minimum. So just a swipe of a volumising mascara and a BB cream to even out the skintone suffices,” she adds.

Unlike what people think, sporting a dark lip shade works well for all skin tones. “Indian skin tone looks fabulous with a deep brown, purple or even a crimson red. In fact, the fact that we are blessed with naturally well- pigmented hair, it only compliments our features!” states Anu. About time you flaunt a ‘ darker’ side? Perhaps, it is!
