Cong veterans to be advisers?
Speculation of a CWC meeting, “margardhak mandal” and organisational reshuffle is going on in the Congress party at a time when it has been facing internal and external challenges from the loyalists and regional parties, besides the BJP.
Officially, the party is tight- lipped on holding a CWC meeting in the coming days.
But senior party leaders, who are above 70 years, could be accommodated in a proposed advisory council rather than the day- to- day activities.
Meanwhile, leaders like Jairam Ramesh, Jyotiraditya Scindia, Deepender Hooda, Randeep Surjewala, Ashok Tanwar, K. Raju, Kumari Selja, Rajeev Satav, Gaurav Gogoi, K. C. Venugopal, Ranveet Singh, Sushmita Dev, Milind Deora, R. P. N. Singh, Jitin Prasada and Priya Dutt could get important positions in the organisation.
“At national level, you can a combination of experienced and you but in states Rahul’s team will be clearly visible,” insiders said.
Mr Surjewala also said party Mr Gandhi is finalising plans for structural changes in the party and has talked to a large number of members at various levels on the road ahead. Party leader Jairam Ramesh has already made a strong pitch for Rahul Gandhi to take over the organisation as soon as possible. A senior leader, however, remarked that changes in the organisation needed be carried out cautiously given the fact that those sitting in the AICC are “more powerful than the syndicate” in the times of Indira Gandhi.
There has been no formal word on when the much talked about meeting of the Congress Working Committee will be held.
