Nightwalks in Old Delhi to celebrate Ramzan
The event will be inaugurated by tourism minister Kapil Mishra
In a unique initiative, Delhiites will get an opportunity to savour the vibrant nightlife and feast on the delectable cuisine of the walled city during the holy month of Ramzan. To be launched by tourism minister Kapil Mishra, the nightwalk initiative will commence with an iftar experience evening at Jama Masjid where people will be treated to a panoramic view of Shahjahanabad while feasting on traditional iftar meal comprising fruits, local snacks and sweets.
An initiative of the city’s tourism department and Delhi Walks, the nightwalk will be an important milestone in reviving the “vibrant and beautiful” nightlife of the city, said Mr Mishra.
The event will be inaugurated on June 8 and a total of nine nightwalk events will be held from June 10 to 26 in the heritage city of Shahjahanabad, giving
the visitors a taste of mouth- watering cuisine, story- telling sessions and other cultural and Ramzan experiences, a Delhi government official said.
A major attraction of the nightwalk event will be the opportunity to taste the local delicacies such as mutton korma, chicken jahangiri and deserts in the narrow bylanes of Matia Mahal, Daryaganj and other parts of Shahjahanabad, he added.
The walks will give people an opportunity to enter sacred precincts of Old Delhi’s Jama Masjid and witness thousands of people breaking their roza ( fast) with members of their community.
Delhi Walks will take the people through the alleys like Matia Mahal and Chawri Bazaar and they will be able to walk down these alleys and munch on a plate of spicy pakoras or experiment with traditional Indian biscuits like nankhatai and rusks made in ovens fired by charcoal.
People will also be able to appease their sweet tooth with host of sumptuous desserts such as shahi tukda, kulfi faluda, imartee and sewaiyaan. During the walks, people will be dropped to the bakeries of their choice to enjoy crispy snacks like matthi and namak- paare with a piping hot glass of chai or icy- cold flavoured milk.
