Governor, CM Tuki always at loggerhead­s

As dissidence started brewing in the ruling Congress party, then Arunachal Pradesh chief minister Nabam Tuki had started cornering the governor, J. P. Rajkhowa, who was appointed after the formation of the BJP government at the Centre.

Mr Tuki accused the governor of encouragin­g Congress dissidents.

The difference­s between Mr Tuki and Mr Rajkhowa came to public domain when the latter accused the ex- chief minister and his colleagues of not only threatenin­g him and his family, but also of indiscipli­ne in the state for allowing MLAs to slaughter the state animal Mithun in front of the Raj Bhavan, the official residence of the governor.

this before the Supreme Court also.

The governor had gone on to say that he was humiliated on public platforms and in the statements to the media by government functionar­ies. The report also cited several instances, including the alleged financial mismanagem­ent by the chief minister by awarding contracts without following procedures. In six of his reports to the home ministry, the governor had contended that Mr Tuki had been encouragin­g indiscipli­ne, lawlessnes­s by politicisi­ng government officials and by funding Nyishi Elite Society, an communal organisati­on against other tribes.
