Man with his wrist slit found at IGI Airport

A security person on Wednesday morning found a man lying unconscious in a pool of blood at the IGI Airport. According to the police, the man, Muthu Sendil Kumaran, has been identified as a doctor and a resident of Bengaluru. The police has not ruled out the possibility that he attempted to commit suicide.

“On Wednesday at 5 am, a CISF employee on duty in the departure area, noticed Kumaran, a resident of Bengaluru, lying in a pool of blood in the forecourt area of the departure gate number 4 in terminal 3. He was unconscious and blood was oozing out of his right hand wrist, which was cut. A knife, which might have been used to cut the veins, was found near his body. Later, the airport terminal doctor reached the spot and provided first aid. He was taken to Safdarjung Hospital,” said a senior CISF official. “We have also informed the Delhi police about this incident,” the official added.

“Kumaran is a doctor by profession. We found a passport without any visa from his possession. Prima facie it looks like a suicide attempt, but we will wait for his recovery as he is out of danger, but still unconscious. We cannot comment at this moment and we will wait for his statement. We have registered a case and are investigating the matter,” said DCP ( IGIA) D. K. Gupta.

In February 2011, a 38year- old US citizen allegedly tried to commit suicide at the IGI Airport. The incident occurred at the newlybuilt terminal- 3 when Tyrome Torand Redmon climbed over the railings of the departure gate 8 and jumped from there. However, he was rescued by a US official on the spot.
